Scripture:
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” – Psalm 23:1
Beloved,
David begins this Psalm with a bold declaration of confidence: “The LORD is my Shepherd.” In biblical times, a shepherd’s role was more than feeding the flock, it was guiding, protecting, and providing for them. The sheep depended entirely on the shepherd for survival.
By calling the Lord his Shepherd, David assures us that God personally takes responsibility for His children. We lack nothing essential for life and godliness because He is our Shepherd.
Though circumstances may speak of lack, delay, or hardship, the Shepherd’s presence guarantees timely provision.
When life feels uncertain, overwhelming, or lonely, remember this: the Shepherd never abandons His sheep. He knows your needs before you even ask, and He provides according to His riches in glory.
His provision is not only material, it includes peace for your heart, guidance for your path, and protection from evil. Truly, when the LORD is your Shepherd, you shall not want.
Reflection:
1. In what areas of my life am I experiencing feelings of lack or insufficiency?
2. Am I fully trusting God as my Shepherd, or leaning too much on my own strength?
3. How can I practice daily declaring, “I shall not want” regardless of my circumstances?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my Shepherd. In You, I lack nothing.
Teach me to rest in Your unfailing provision and to trust You completely.
Meet not only my physical needs, but also my spiritual and emotional needs.
Strengthen my faith so that I may boldly declare that I shall not want, because You are enough for me in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
