The LORD is My Shepherd, but Are You His Sheep?

Scripture:

“The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall not want.” – Psalm 23:1

Beloved,

David boldly declared the LORD as his Shepherd, showing complete trust in God’s guidance, provision, and protection. A shepherd’s responsibility is to care for the sheep, but the sheep must also recognise, trust, and follow the shepherd’s voice.

We love the assurance of “I shall not want” but this promise belongs to those who are truly His sheep. The Shepherd provides food, rest, direction, and safety, but the sheep must stay close, listen, and obey. Many want God’s provision without submission, His protection without obedience, and His blessings without surrender.

The real question is: Are you truly His sheep? Do you hear His voice, follow His lead, and trust His direction even when it is inconvenient or unclear? If not, then claiming Him as your Shepherd becomes an empty declaration. If you are unwilling to follow, then you cannot claim Him as your Shepherd.

As we step into the uncertainties of the remaining days of 2025, the safest place to be is under the care of the Good Shepherd. His presence ensures we lack nothing essential for life and godliness.

Therefore, let us make the deliberate choice to hear, obey, and trust the Shepherd’s leading. For only then will His promise: “you shall not want” become our daily reality.

Reflection:

1. Am I truly His sheep, hearing and obeying His voice?

2. Am I fully trusting God as my Shepherd, or am I relying on my own efforts?

3. How can I declare daily that “I shall not want” despite my circumstances?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep.

Help me to truly be Your sheep, hearing, trusting, and obeying Your voice.

Keep me close to You, and guide me into the fullness of Your purpose in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
