đź“– Scripture:
“But Peter and the apostles answered, ‘We must obey God rather than men.'” – Acts 5:29 (ESV)
Devotional Thought:
Sometimes, God gives you a clear direction. You know deep within that it’s Him speaking and you’re ready to obey. Yet, it’s often in those moments that you find yourself standing alone. Even those closest to you, family, friends, and even fellow believers may not understand or support your obedience.
Jesus’ own disciples didn’t fully grasp His mission while He walked the earth. If He faced misunderstanding, how much more will we? The truth is, when you choose to obey God, don’t expect the crowd to cheer you on.
Saul’s downfall began with a desire to please people. He feared their opinions more than he feared God’s command (1 Samuel 15). And tragically, the same people he sought to impress eventually celebrated David, the man chosen to replace him.
Likewise, Moses faithfully interceded for Israel, standing in the gap again and again. But in a moment of personal disobedience, no one stood for him. He bore the consequences alone and missed the Promised Land (Numbers 20:12).
Obedience can be costly. It can be lonely. And it can be misunderstood. But it is never wasted. God honours those who honour Him.
Even spiritual voices can mislead you if they contradict what God has personally spoken to your heart. The young prophet in 1 Kings 13 paid a heavy price for listening to a more “experienced” prophet rather than obeying God’s direct word to him.
The journey to heaven is individual, not collective. As long as you are sure God is leading you, follow Him wholeheartedly. In time, what may seem costly now will be revealed as precious and wise.
🧠Today’s Reflection:
Obeying God may cost you relationships, reputation, or comfort, but disobeying Him costs far more.
🙏 Prayer:
Father, give me the courage to obey You even when others don’t understand.
Teach me to value Your voice above all others and help me walk in faith even when I walk alone.
May I live to please You, not man in Jesus’ Name – Amen.
