Scripture:
“And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down.” – 1 Kings 18:30 (KJV)
Beloved,
Throughout the month of October, we have been reminded of the vital call to repair our spiritual altars. Just as Elijah repaired the broken altar of the Lord on Mount Carmel, God is calling us to restore our personal and collective places of prayer, consecration, and communion with Him.
An altar represents a place of sacrifice, surrender, and divine encounter. When our altars are broken through neglect, sin, busyness, or distraction, the fire of God ceases to burn in our hearts. The story in 1 Kings 18 paints a vivid picture: before God’s fire fell, Elijah first repaired the altar. The same is true for us, renewal and revival cannot come until our spiritual foundations are restored.
Repairing the altar means returning to the disciplines that keep us spiritually alive: daily fellowship with God, purity of heart, obedience to His Word, and consistent prayer. It also means rebuilding broken relationships, restoring integrity, and turning away from anything that competes with God’s place in our lives.
As we have reflected this month, God is not just calling us to be spectators of revival, but vessels through whom His fire will fall again. When our altars are whole, His presence is near. When our hearts are aligned, His power is released.
Key Lessons
Before the fire of God falls, the altar must be repaired.
Broken altars can be rebuilt through repentance, prayer, and obedience.
God responds to a prepared altar and a surrendered heart.
Prayer:
Lord, I return to You with a sincere heart. Where my altar has been broken, heal and restore it. Rekindle Your fire within me.
Let my life become a dwelling place for Your presence and power. May the flame on my altar never go out again in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
